Breckenridge, TX

We've made it to Texas and to the Hampton Inn here. Again, it is just incredibly good to see our friends. It's unbelieveable to think that we haven't seen THEM for 4 years!! The little boys didn't miss a beat; they started with the airsoft guns within 5 minutes of our arrival. So we are about to play dominoes as we catch up on life and imbibe on good beer and other assorted spirits.

We really had a relaxing (if you call 545 miles relaxing) day today. We didn't depart the hotel this morning until 8:40 (after a really good, hot hotel breakfast), and we meandered our way. We had two big stops along the way: to Wal Mart ( I had to buy some essentials like bread and toothbrush holders; the boys ALL ended up with new airsoft guns...), and to our requisite Tex-Mex restaraunt (Two Senoritas) for a late lunch. The most anxious part of the journey was Dallas at rush hour, but compared to DC, it really wasn't bad.

On a really gross note, I'm including a picture of the cargo carrier. The Professor has a habit of opening the sun roof cover to look and make sure the thing is still there. Well, yesterday morning he slid it open, and we both gasped...It is coated with bugs from our night driving from Oxford to our stopping point. We'll be sure to clean all the bug guts off before we return it to you, Han and Leah!!

The kids have been getting along very well, all things considered; we'll see how we're doing 3 weeks from now...it is nice, though, to know we don't have to drive tomorrow. Our other Germany friends are driving from San Antonio tomorrow while we're here. It's just like being back in Germany, except that there are no fireworks (like New Year's Eve) and the beer's not quite the same.

Hope all our readers are doing well--we're getting ready to play Mexican Train dominoes...see you tomorrow!!

  1. Great job on the blog. Looks like you're having fun so far except for those yucky bugs.
